Five Fisheries students from Central Luzon State University (CLSU), College of Fisheries namely, Joshua Czeasar P. Jimenez, Ellaine Karylle Mae C. Bernabe, Kein R. Galano, Angelica G. Arellano, and Stephen Nathanielle A. Cortez, were accompanied by their faculty-in-charge (FIC), Dr. Alvin T. Reyes, to Kasetsart University (KU) in Thailand on June 30, 2023, as part of the International Student Exchange Program (ISEP).

This ISEP aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of the participating students on the cultural management of various freshwater and marine fish species in Thailand. Moreover, it is also considered a good venue for cultural exchange as the CLSU students are able to trade their ideas, feelings, stories and customs to their local counterpart. This partnership between CLSU and KU contributes to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals.

On July 4, 2023, the students along with their FIC were welcomed by Associate Professor Dr. Suriyan Thankitjanukit, Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries, Associate Professor Dr. Wanwimol Klaipradit, Deputy Dean for International Affairs, and Assistant Professor Dr. Sukkrit Nimitkul, Lecturer at the Department of Aquaculture.

Moreover, Dr. Alvin T. Reyes delivered a presentation highlighting the ability of Streptococcus spp., isolated from tilapia grow-out farms, to develop antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in commonly used antibiotics in Pampanga, Philippines. AMR is considered a global health problem and development threat. It requires urgent multisectoral action in order to achieve the SDGs.
