The 2nd installment of CF SWIMs (Series of Webinars on Inland and Marine Fisheries), organized by the Department of Aquatic Resources, Ecology, and Management, took place on November 21, 2023, through an online platform. The webinar, titled "Dredging: Impact, Reuse, and Rehabilitation," featured Prof. Dr. Ir. Chan Chee Ming, a distinguished faculty member in Engineering Technology at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia.

During the webinar, Dr. Ming delivered an insightful talk covering various sub-topics related to dredging. These included the historical background of dredging, an exploration of dredgers – their machines and operations, the disposal and impact of dredged materials, and a presentation of samples from her research works focusing on the reuse and rehabilitation of dredged materials.

Dr. Ming's research contributions offer valuable insights into sustainable practices for the reuse and rehabilitation of dredged materials. This aligns with the objectives of Sustainable Development Goal 14 (Life Below Water), emphasizing responsible and environmentally friendly approaches in coastal and marine environments.

As part of the interactive session, attendees had the opportunity to pose questions to the resource speaker, fostering a collaborative exchange of knowledge and facilitating a deeper understanding of the intricacies surrounding dredging, its impacts, and the importance of sustainable practices for dredged material management. This engagement contributes to the dissemination of knowledge and the promotion of best practices in the field of inland and marine fisheries.
