To better grasp fishery laws, the fourth year Bachelor of Science in Fisheries students invited Attorney Nilo B. Consuelo, the Chief of BFAR Region 5 - Production Division, and a BS Fisheries Alumnus, on a webinar entitled 'Exploring the Coast: A Closer View on the Salient Features of the Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998 and its Amendments' via Zoom Cloud Conferencing last May 14, 2024.
During the webinar, Atty. Consuelo generously shared his expertise including his deep insights into the Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998 (RA 8550) as amended by RA 10654. With clarity and depth, he emphasized the vital role of fishery laws in preventing, deterring, and eliminating illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing (IUUF).
This webinar served as an invaluable resource for all the stakeholders involved in the fisheries industry including interested individuals. Through this event, substantial information regarding fishery laws were delivered to raise awareness, highlighting its significance in the sustainable management and conservation of fishery resources.
The webinar was organized by BSF-4 students for the completion of their course FISH 4398 (Seminar), with Dr. Lorenz J. Fajardo as their mentor. The program hosted by Ms. Camille C. Flora and Ms. Viane Joy A. Tomas, had 171 participants comprising students from various colleges of CLSU and other universities, BFAR employees, and faculty and staff of the College of Fisheries.
