With an aim to equip aspiring aquapreneurs with the necessary skills and information to venture into the lucrative field of shrimp business, Fish 4398 Bachelor of Science in Fisheries (BSF) students invited Mr. Oliver T. Reclamado and Mrs. Herle Mae B. Reclamado, BSF alumni of batch 2004. Both speakers possess over a decade of experience working in aquaculture companies in India focused on shrimp business and currently have their own grow-out operation called DR. Shrimp Farm. In the seminar entitled, "Aquapreneur: Venturing into Shrimp Production", they generously shared their knowledge and expertise on shrimp production held on April 18, 2024 at the College of Fisheries - Freshwater Aquaculture Center Conference Hall.
From their journey they have proven that in fisheries industry, with several opportunities including entrepreneurships, our goal should not just end with working for others but with others working for us. From their talk, it can be said that only with enough years of knowledge can this pursuit be this successful which further emphasizes the significance of having exposure on the field.
This seminar was a valuable resource for individuals interested in starting their own shrimp aquaculture business. By attending such events, aspiring aquapreneurs could gain insights into the industry, learn about best practices, and network with other professionals.
This event was led by BSF 4-2 students as part of their subject FISH 4398 (Seminar), supervised by Dr. Lorenz J. Fajardo. The program was attended by 140 participants composed of students, faculty members and staff. It was hosted by Ms. Maria V. Trisha Samoy and Mr. Arvin Cesar A. Castro.
